AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State defeated Paine 20-3 on Thursday evening in a
non-conference matchup at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 14-11 overall and 3-3 in the
conference, while Paine dropped to 2-14 on the season.
For the Jags, Senior Chris Tyler (2-1) earned the win and shutout
the Lions in two innings of work and booked four strikeouts. Senior
Adam Mathis relieved Tyler in the third and pitched 2.0 innings,
giving up 2 runs on three hits and had two strikeouts. Senior Ben
Dukes relieved Mathis in the fifth and gave up one run on two hits.
Sophomore Scott Strickland came in for relief in the seventh and
allowed only one hit and had three strikeouts. Sophomore Patrick
Lowe pitched the ninth, giving up a hit and had a strikeout.
Junior Shannon Wilkerson paced the Jags offensively with a 4-for-5
afternoon and five RBI. Four different Jags had two hits on the
day, including senior Jorge Virquez, junior Tony Baker, sophomore
Alex Walker and freshman Dwight Ashe.
Seniors Tim Rawlings and Matt Debes, sophomores Alex Sickman and
Tristan Toorie and freshman Adam King each had a safety on the
day.
The Jags are back in action on Tuesday, March 17, when host USC
Aiken for a non-conference matchup at Lake Olmstead Stadium. First
pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
