AMERICUS, Ga.
– Georgia Southwestern outscored Augusta State 20-4 in the
first 6:35 of the second half Thursday and recorded a 77-69 Peach
Belt Conference victory over the Lady Jaguars in the Storm
Dome.
The Lady Hurricanes improved to 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the PBC,
while ASU suffered its 14th straight loss, remaining winless in
conference play at 0-9 and falling to 1-17 overall.
Senior guard Eboni Davis connected on five 3-pointers and led three
Lady Jags in double figures with 16 points. Fellow senior guard
Brittany Jarrard netted 14 points, including a pair of treys, and
freshman forward Waneta Carlisle booked 13 points and nine
rebounds.
GSW's Jessica Bivins poured in 30 points off the bench and
Whitley Wiltz registered 21 points and nine rebounds. Brittany
Reynolds tallied a game-high 11 rebounds, five assists and three
blocks.
ASU trailed just 36-33 after a first half that featured 11 lead
changes. The Lady 'Canes shot 52 percent in the game,
including over 57 percent in the second half, and led by as much as
21, the last time with 6:18 left in the game.
The Lady Jags shot 36 percent for the game and 41 percent from
3-point range. Each team drained nine 3- pointers, and GSW owned
the edge in rebounding, 41-38.
ASU takes on Columbus State on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.,
from the Lumpkin Center in Columbus, Ga. The Lady Jags return home
to host USC Aiken for "Blackout" on Wednesday, Feb. 3
at 5:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
