AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State registered an 87-66 non-conference victory over Converse Saturday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The win lifted the Lady Jaguars to a 2-1 record, while the Valkyries dropped to 0-6. The back-to-back wins were the first for the program since Dec. 6 and Dec. 15, 2008.
ASU senior guard Blaire Egardo tallied a career-high 27 points -- 19 in the first half -- and a career-best six steals. Sophomore reserve forward Tracy Aifuwa recorded career highs in points (10) and rebounds (six) as nine different Lady Jags played 13 or more minutes.
Senior point guard Jarquella Woods handed out a career-best 10 assists and added nine points. Senior forward Briyana Evans chipped in six assists and four steals.
ASU shot 50 percent from the field and outscored the Valkyries 50-18 in the paint. The Lady Jags, who never trailed, forced 35 turnovers and collected 22 steals
ASU opened the second half on an 18-2 run and moved out to a 57-35 lead on an Egardo 3-pointers with 15:57 left in the game. Two free throws from Evans gave the Lady Jags their largest lead -- a 26-point advantage -- with 4:02 to play.
Deondria Terrell was the only Converse player to reach double figures, finishing with 18 points.
The Lady Jags host Allen on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
