AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State used balanced scoring Tuesday night to register a 70-53 non-conference victory against Allen in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The win was the Lady Jaguars' third straight and lifted them to 3-1 on the season, the first 3-1 start for the women's basketball program since the 2006-07 season.
Senior guard Blaire Egardo connected on three 3-pointers and paced ASU with 14 points and five steals. Senior guard Briyana Evans netted 12 points and four steals, while senior guard Jarquella Woods and freshman guard/forward Jemimah Ashby booked 10 points each. Sophomore Tracy Aifuwa grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and Woods dished out five assists. Ashby and sophomore forward Waneta Carlisle had two blocks each.
Allen's Kendra McMichael notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and was the only Lady Yellow Jacket to reach double figures.
The Lady Jags shot 50 percent in the second half and 47 percent overall for the game. They forced 23 Allen turnovers and limited the visitors to just 34 percent shooting from the field.
ASU led by as much as 12 in the first half on two different occasions and took a 33-25 lead into the break. A three-point play from Carlisle with 3:26 remaining gave the Lady Jags their largest lead of the game at 66-44.
ASU faces Paine in Carter Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 6:00 p.m., and tips off its Peach Belt Conference schedule on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Armstrong Atlantic State's Alumni Arena at 1:30 p.m.
