FLORENCE, S.C. -
Francis Marion celebrated Homecoming Saturday afternoon with an
89-47 Peach Belt Conference victory over Augusta State in Smith
University Center.
The victory improved the No. 19 Patriots to 22-3 overall and 14-2
in the PBC. With the loss, ASU dropped to 1-25 on the season and
remained winless in league play at 0-16.
The win was the 12th in the last 13 games for FMU, while the loss
extended the Lady Jags' skid to 22.
Senior forward Kirsten Stallings came off the bench to pace ASU
with 12 points. Freshman Waneta Carlisle booked 10 points and
grabbed five rebounds, as did freshman forward Tracy Aifuwa. Eboni
Davis registered five assists and four steals.
Eboni Fields led five Patriots in double figures with 17 points.
Shannon Singleton-Bates and Nicole Mealing netted 14 points each
and Tiahana Bowens managed 13 points and a game-high eight
rebounds. Precious Tucker added 11 points and Robin Colbert notched
six assists.
FMU forced 30 turnovers and outscored the Lady Jags 46-14 in the
paint. The Patriots drained nine 3-pointers and outrebounded ASU
53-28.
The Patriots came out firing right from the outset, sprinting out
to a 26-9 lead midway through the first half. FMU shot 50 percent
in the opening 20 minutes and led by as many as 33 with just over a
minute remaining in the first stanza before taking a 48-19 lead at
the break.
The Lady Jags host Lander for Senior Night on Saturday, Feb. 27 at
5:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
