AUGUSTA, Ga. - No.
10 Lander held off Augusta State, 63-56 on Saturday in a Peach Belt
Conference matchup on Senior Night in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The
loss also ended the Lady Jaguars 2010 season.
With the win, Lander improved to 24-2 on the season and 17-1 in the
conference, while the loss dropped the Lady Jags to 1-26 overall
and 0-17 in the league.
Junior guard Blaire Egardo paced the Lady Jags with a team-high 16
points, while senior Kirsten Stallings added 13 points and snagged
seven rebounds. Senior Eboni Davis tallied nine assists, seven
rebounds and booked six points.
Shannon McKever the Lady Bearcats with double-double including 16
points and 12 rebounds. Tasheba Butler added a double-double with
16 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Judge had 10 points and snagged
five rebounds, while Ciara Lyons added nine points.
The Lady Jags led the first half until the 7:37 mark, when Lander
would use an 8-point spurt to go ahead by five with 6:31 left in
the half. ASU would tie the game at 30-all with a 3-point shot from
Waneta Carlisle. The Lady Jags led 37-36 at the end of the first
half.
The Lady Bearcats came out of the half and tied the game 39-all at
the 16:51 mark and then went ahead by four. ASU would tie the game
at 45-all with 10:54 left in the game, but Lander quickly went
ahead with a jumper from Brittni Johnson and would maintain the
lead the rest of the game.
Lander outscored the Lady Jags 26-20 in the paint and forced 20 ASU
turnovers. The Lady Bearcats shot 52.0 percent from the free-throw
line, but connected on only 4-of-22 3-point attempts (18.2
percent).
Augusta State forced 18 Lander turnovers and shot 56.6 percent from
the free-throw line, but shot only 37.5 percent from the field and
connected on only 4-of-21 3-point attempts (19.0 percent).
