AUGUSTA, Ga. – Four Lady Cougars scored in double figures to lead Columbus State on Saturday afternoon to a Peach Belt Conference 79-42 win over Augusta State in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Lady Cougars improved to 11-7 overall and 4-5 in the PBC, while the Lady Jags dropped to 6-12 overall and 0-10 in conference play. The loss was the 10th straight for ASU.
ASU forward Waneta Carlisle pulled down a career high 14 rebounds to lead all players, while senior guard Blaire Egardo scored a team-high eight points. Senior guard Jarquella Woods handed out a game-high six assists, while sophomore reserve guard Morgan Goss had three steals.
The Lady Cougars dominated on the boards, pulling down 61 rebounds compared to ASU's 38. Junior center Dominique Gilbert recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Junior forward Marah Wright led all scorers with 14, while guard Asha Alexander netted 13 and freshman guard Marina DeFoor contributed 10.
The Lady Jags registered a season-low 25.0 percent from the field and connected on just 4-of-21 from behind the arc (19 percent).
We need to communicate better and find our shooters," said ASU head coach Nate Teymer. "We can't let this loss affect us for the game with USC Aiken on Wednesday."
The Lady Jags will be back in action on Wednesday, February 2 at 5:30 p.m., when they travel to Aiken, S.C.., to take on the No. 18 Lady Pacers.
