AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Sophomore forward Waneta Carlisle registered her second double-double of the season Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as Augusta State fell to Flagler 57-55 in Peach Belt Conference action at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Lady Saints improved to 6-17, 3-12 in the PBC, while ASU, winners of two of its last three, dropped to 8-16 overall and 2-14 in the league.
Carlisle tallied 17 points, a career-high 16 rebounds -- including eight offensive boards -- and a career-best six steals. Freshman Jemimah Ashby also scored 13 for the Lady Jags, who were without the services of the team's leading scorer, senior guard Blaire Egardo, who was sidelined with the flu.
Flagler had two players in double figures as well. The Saints were led by Adrienne Donelson's double-double. She booked a game-high 18 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks. Chelsea Owen contributed 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Shelbi Lindsey grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Lady Jags led at the half 26-23 on the strength of Carlisle's 13 points and eight boards. The scored 12 second-chance points and were a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Carlisle's rebound and putback with 34.7 seconds left brought the Lady Jags within two 53-55. Flagler's Chelsea Owen stretched the lead to 57-53 on two free throws. Ashby scored on a layup with 18 seconds left to get within 57-55. Lady Jags' reserve guard Morgan Goss stole the inbounds pass with 13 seconds left and ASU called timeout. The Lady Jags ran the clock down and were unable to get a good look at a game-tying attempt.
"We were a little limited today because Blaire had the flu," said ASU head coach Nate Teymer. "With just two games left, the focus is to compete. You have to compete and represent ASU. You've got to be a team that fights."
ASU shot 29.7 percent for the game compared to Flagler's 40 percent. The Lady Jags connected on 14-of-17 free-throw attempts (82.4 percent).
ASU plays host to Francis Marion for Homecoming and Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
