AUGUSTA, Ga. -- For the second straight day, Augusta State split a non-conference doubleheader with Carson-Newman Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Senior catcher Casey Hanrahan jacked a three-run homer for ASU in the seventh inning of the opening game and junior righthander Rob Crosby earned his first win in a Jaguar uniform with 1.2 innings of hitless relief. Fellow junior righty Wilson Taylor earned his second save in as many days, retiring the side in order in the ninth.
Hanrahan and sophomore first baseman Brac Barton collected two hits each and senior third baseman Andy Onufrak drove in ASU's first run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-all.
Josh Barks, a sophomore righthander from Sparks, Ga., allowed four hits and a run in 6.1 innings, striking out and walking three each.
The Eagles tallied nine hits and took advantage of seven ASU errors on their way to a 9-3 win in the second two.
Freshman lefty Kip Custer made his first career appearance for the Jags, yielding five hits and six runs (one earned) in 4.0 innings. Crosby, Clint Echols and Aaron Lewis each worked an inning of relief, combining to allow just four hits and one earned run.
Senior designated hitter Tristan Toorie smacked his first home run of the season for ASU, while freshman second baseman Jeff Rice and Hanrahan added doubles.
The Jags host Anderson on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Jaguar Field on the Forest Hills campus at 2:00 p.m.
