AUGUSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State University defeated Augusta State 16-4 Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field, in a non-conference match up. The Blazers jumped on the Jaguars early, scoring 10 runs in the first four innings, including a three-run homer from VSU junior Tyler Reimer in the first inning.
The loss dropped the Jaguars to 11-14 overall, while the victory improved the Blazers to 9-13 overall.
Valdosta State's pitching staff held the Jags scoreless for seven innings, when a lead-off single by Walker sparked a three run rally. The Jags plated one more run in the ninth inning. Freshman infielder Ross Miles and senior Alex Walker posted three hits for the Jags, while senior Andy Onufrak booked two hits with two RBI.
VSU's John Willner, Josh Vining, and Cameron Graves lead the Blazers with three hits each, including a two-run homer from Willner. Junior hurler Steven Groves (2-0) earned the win over the Jags.
The Jaguars travel to Americus, Ga., Saturday, March 19, for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series match up against the Hurricanes. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
