Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Unbeaten they were and unbeaten they remain, as the Augusta State Lady Jaguars rolled to a 5-0 record for the first time in 10 years Wednesday night when ASU pounced Benedict 61-47 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Lady Jaguars shot 42 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Tigers 51-40 in ASU's last game before Peach Belt Conference play begins.
"We're handling business and doing what we're supposed to do," ASU head coach Nate Teymer said.
ASU senior Taylor Ayers came off the bench to posted a game-high 13 points and nine rebounds. Junior point guard Tanchelle Hollingsworth booked 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists and senior Tiffany Jaecks pitched in nine points and five rebounds. Senior guard Brittany White, who entered the game leading the PBC in steals, added to her league-leading total with six more in the contest.
Alexus Jones led the Lady Tigers (2-3) with 13 points and London Richardson added 10.
Junior Jemimah Ashby's inside pass to senior Laci Schreiber pushed ASU out to a 10-0 advantage early in the first half, after White's first of three steals in the half led to a double-figure Jaguar lead. The Jags forced three turnovers on the first three Benedict possessions and capitalized, scoring 15 points off of BC turnovers in the first half.
The Lady Jags led 36-21 at the break and increased their advantage to as much as 24 at the 8:50 mark of the second half on a Hollingsworth jumper.
"We were challenged in the second half," Teymer said. "We let them get back into it, but we stepped up as well."
The Lady Jags return to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 when they open their conference schedule at Lander at 1:30 p.m.
"There's a lot of pressure and we have to work on turnovers," Teymer said. "(Lander) has the 8-0 streak going, but I'm happy to have a conference game this early."
