AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over UNC Pembroke Friday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The contest marked the end of the regular season for the Jaguars and was the final home appearance for seniors Meredith Berce, Mandy Irizarry and Krystin Wahlig.
With Wahlig on serve for the first point of the first set, the Jaguars scored early on a Jenna Keeler kill to set the tone of the night. ASU won the first 25-14 and posted a .447 attack percentage to the UNC Pembroke's .158. The Jags had 19 kills against just two errors with Irizarry and Keller combining for 12.
The victory lifted ASU to 18-14 overall and 6-8 in the PBC, while the Braves fell to 5-23 overall and 0-13 in the conference.
Set two saw the closest competition of the night, with the Jags finally taking the set, 25-21. Despite the Braves outhitting ASU .178 to .170, and posting four errors, two less than ASU, the Jags grabbed a 2-0 lead on two UNCP errors.
The Jags sealed a 3-0 win in the third set, posting a .244 hitting percentage to .073 of the Braves. Wahlig recorded a team-leading 40 assists and added eight digs. Irizarry posted her fourth double-double on the season with 18 kills on one error and 15 digs. Keeler added 10 kills, while Maggie Darling posted a career-high 17 digs and Collette Richards notched 15.
ASU will now begin preparations for the Peach Belt Conference Championships, slated for Nov. 16-18 in St. Augustine, Fla.
