First Half Deficit At Clayton State Too Much To Withstand

Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. -  The Jaguars fell 62-42 to the Clayton State Lakers Wednesday night at the Clayton State Athletic Center to put the team at 9-10 overall and 5-7 in the Peach Belt Conference.

GRU Augusta only shot 27.9 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from three-point range in the road loss in Atlanta. Freshman Tavia Sykes hit two three-pointers and snagged four rebounds as she posted 12 total. Whitney Rohrbach did it all with eight points, nine boards, and three steals, but Clayton State's Shacamra Jackson was too much to withstand. Jackson scored a game-high 21 points, with nine boards and seven blocks.

Clayton State out-blocked GRU 10-to-1 and had four in double figures – highlighted by Tiayra Green's 12 and Andrea Bedfor's 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Lakers scored 20 points off turnovers and only let the Jags get to the free-throw line six times. GRU outscored the Lakers 25-to-24 in the second, but a 38-to-17 advantage at the break was too much to overcome

The Jags host Young Harris in Saturday, Feb. 8 for a Peach Belt Conference 1:30 p.m. game and for Military Appreciation Day.
