AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia Regents men's tennis team won their third straight non-conference match on Thursday afternoon with a 9-0 shut-out victory over the Concord Mountain Lions at Newman Tennis Center.
The Jaguars jumped to 8-4 on the year, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-4 after the windy contest in Augusta. The Jaguars went undefeated in doubles play with an 8-3 No. 2 match being the closest competition that Concord could conjure. GRU won five consecutive singles matches with ease, before Concord's Bill Wright won the first set of the day for the visiting team over Vitor Villaescusa. Villaescusa, the freshman, responded in the next to sets to trump Wright 6-2 and 10-3 to comeback for the win and seal a 9-0 Jaguar day.
GRU resumes Peach Belt Conference play this Sunday, March 16 for a 3:00 p.m. match at the beach in St. Augustine, Fla., against Flagler.
