Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Jaguars beat the Paine Lions 9-2 in non-conference action at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Tuesday night for their third consecutive win.
Jaguar (8-11) freshman Chase Loyd started things off for the Jaguars with a single that allowed senior Ross Miles to score a run in the second. Senior JD Sabo followed him up with a double that led to junior Bradley Dennis and Loyd's runs. A walk from Paine starting freshman Adam Martin loaded the bases and set up senior Ryan Khan's double that led freshman Tyler Roberts and Sabo home for an increased GRU lead. The second inning ended with the Jaguars up 5-0 after four straight singles and five Jags hits total.
After putting up a 5-0 lead in the second, the Jaguars increased their advantage in the sixth when Roberts hit an RBI-double. The Jaguars were up 7-0 at the end of the sixth. Again in the seventh, the Jaguars furthered their lead with a triple by Loyd that brought Dennis in for a run. Murray followed up with a single that allowed Loyd to score for a 9-0 lead.
The Lions remained scoreless into the ninth when a double from rfeshman Cordale Duncan brought senior Jonathan Richey in for a run. Duncan was allowed a run after freshman Fentress Henderson sacrificed himself. The Jags held on in the ninth to take a 9-2 final.
Freshman Tyler Brown made his second start in a Jaguar uniform and recorded 6.0 innings off work where he allowed three hits and dealt four strikeouts in his first win of his young career. Brown (1-1) held the Lions scoreless as did relief pitchers David Bermudez and Tyler Grooms. Sabo went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored, Miles was 2-for-4 as was Bradley Dennis and Loyd, who drove in two RBI. Murray had a 2-for-3 night with an RBI and scored run.
The Jags return to Peach Belt Conference play this Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9 at North Georgia starting with a Saturday doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. in Dahlonega, Ga.
