Augusta University starts year at Conference Carolinas / Peach Belt Challenge

CENTRAL, S.C. – In day two of the Conference Carolinas/ Peach Belt Challenge, the Augusta University women's basketball team dropped an 84-67 non-conference game to the Emmanuel Lions.

After taking a 77-59 win over tourney host Southern Wesleyan on Friday night, the Jags returned to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon and the Jags (1-1) fell to the Emmanuel Lions despite Augusta senior Kariel Hutt posting her eighth-straight double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Augusta's Camille Gee and Breonna O'Conner each produced 12 points in both their starts and senior Lonna Turner notched nine points and four boards. Sophomore Cynara Pitt grabbed seven rebounds and O'Conner added four steals.

Emmanuel scored 19 points off turnovers to the Jags' 12 and handled the paint with 30 points to Augusta's 26 inside the lane. Augusta had two more blocks than the Lions and four more steals, but Emmanuel shot 45.8 percent from the floor to Augusta's 32.9 percent.

EC's Elise Coberley scored a game-high 19 points with 10 boards and Mikayla Trombley and Timia Reynolds each had 17 points. The Jags got to the free-throw line for 18-of-25 shots and the Lions hit 23-30 from the charity stripe.

Augusta plays at Coker in Hartsville, S.C., on Wednesday, Nov. 18 for a 6:00 p.m. single non-conference game.
