Box Score Three Jags score in double figures, Kariel Hutt records ninth-straight double-double
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Augusta University women's basketball team had three starters score in double-figure points in a 75-68 non-conference road win at Coker College in the DeLoach Center on Wednesday night.
Augusta (2-1) played their third road game in the last six days to start the season. Seniors Kariel Hutt, Camille Gee, and Lonna Turner made the start along with junior-transfers Kayla Lovett and Breonna O'Conner.
Hutt entered the game averaging 14.5 points per game and O'Conner 13.0 points per game. Hutt pushed her streak of consecutive games with a double-double to nine with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Hutt also had six blocks and five steals, while Lovett poured on 14 and O'Conner 13. Cynara Pitt posted nine points and six boards off the bench and Gee went 2-for-3 from three-point land and racked up nine total points total.
The Jags outscored Coker in the paint 40-18 and shot 51.7 percent from the floor while holding the Cobras to a 32.8 field-goal percentage. Augusta hit 10-19 at the charity stripe and 3-9 from beyond the arc.
O'Conner gave the Jags a 5-0 lead to start the game thanks to a free throw and back-to-back layups. The Cobras answered with fifth different players scoring to make it 11-all. Gee and Lovett each nailed a three pointer under two minutes in the opening quarter and a Tavia Sykes layup put Augusta up 19-13 after the first 10 minutes.
Augusta led by as much as 14 in the game and went into the half on top 34-25. Out of the pause, the Cobras outscored the Jags 24-19 in the third period, but the strong start and a 22-19 advantage in the fourth period gave Augusta the edge.
A Terrika Foster layup at 9:51 in the fourth period put Coker within two, but Sykes, Lovett, and Hutt hit layups off a few Cobras misses and turnover. Pitt had three points for the Jags in the closing minutes and Gee hit a jumper with 20 seconds remaining to seal the contest.
Kendra Lambert led Coker with 12 points and Foster notched 10.
The Jaguars host rival Paine College Saturday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. for the 2015-16 home opener in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
