Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta junior forward Kariel Hutt recorded her 10th double-double of the season to help the Jaguars complete a regular-season sweep over Flagler in a 67-52 Peach Belt Conference victory Wednesday evening in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
During the Peach Belt contest, GRU hosted its annual Play 4Kay game to support breast cancer awareness. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised over $3.9 million to support women's cancer research.
To start the match, GRU (6-15, 5-10 PBC) shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half to take a 28-22 halftime lead. The Jags were able to lead by as many as 12 before the Saints (7-15, 4-11 PBC) scored four straight points to cut the deficit.
After the first 20 minutes, Hutt notched seven boards and nine points on the way to her second consecutive double- double performance and her 10th of the year.
In the second half, a three-pointer from junior guard Camille Gee allowed GRU to reclaim the double-digit advantage, 33-22.
The Jags maintained a comfortable lead until four minutes. The Saints scored six unanswered points to come within four, 51-47. However, freshman guard Joshlyn Belcher drained back-to-back trey bombs for a 59-47 score, and virtually put the game out of reach.
Hutt finished the evening with 20 points and 15 rebounds, and Belcher also scored in double figures with 15 points.
As a team, the Jags posted their best shooting performance of the season with 49 percent from the floor, and 40 percent from downtown.
The Jags return to action on Saturday, February 14 at 5:30 p.m. with a rival matchup against USC Aiken across the river in the Convocation Center.
