Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. - The GRU Augusta women's basketball team scored their most points in a game this season to defeat rival USC Aiken, 91-70, and clinch a spot in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament as the East No. 4 seed Wednesday evening in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The victory also gave GRU (9-17, 8-11 PBC) a season sweep over USCA (17-11, 13-6). Last time out, the Jaguars and the Pacers met on Feb. 14 for a Valentine's Day matchup. GRU outlasted USCA, 57-53, on the road to win a tight Peach Belt Conference game in the Convocation Center.
In their final regular-season game, the Jags had a quartet of players score in double figures: junior guard Camille Gee paced all scorers with 24 points and Kelsey Fynaardt registered a career-high 21. GRU's Joshlyn Belcher posted 20 behind four downtown shots and Kariel Hutt scored 13 points.
On the offensive side, the Jags had their best performance of the season. They posted a 56.3 field-goal shooting, 58.8 percent from beyond the arc and 79.4 percent from the charity stripe.
At the beginning of the second half, GRU's Kariel Hutt and Kayla Roberts collided in the paint and both went down. The two never came back, so GRU had to maintain without their point guard and leading scorer. GRU prevailed down the stretch. The Jaguars also won the rebounding battle 39-29, notched 18 second chance points and led by as many as 31 points.
The Pacers also had four player score in the double-digits. Emry Tsitouris and Kassy Johannsen both posted 13 points, and Amaura Brandt and Kate Duff chipped in 10 points, respectively.
From the field, the Pacers shot 42.4 percent and 22.7 percent from downtown. The Pacers also forced 18 turnovers, had 10 steals and five blocks.
GRU will await results from around the league to determine the specifics for the first round of the Peach Belt Conference, held Saturday Feb. 28.
