SAVANNAH, Ga.  – The GRU Augusta women's basketball team trailed the entire game at Armstrong and couldn't recover to drop a 79-70 Peach Belt Conference game on Saturday, Feb. 7 on the road.

GRU (5-16, 4-10 PBC) forced a turnover when Joshlyn Belcher stole the ball from Armstrong (11-10, 9-5 PBC) in their first possession, but the Jaguars missed their first three shot attempts to open the game. The Pirates took a 5-0 lead to open the scoring and continued to push their lead into double digits behind Shermika Harris. Armstrong led by 12 at one point in the first half and eventually a game-high 20 points in the second half.

Harris paced the Pirates with 26 points, while Brigitta Barta netted 20.

Down by eight with just over two minutes to go in the first half, the Jags' Kayla Roberts nailed a three pointer after two Tavia Sykes free throws. Alexia Somerset took a pass inside and banked a layup with 23 seconds on the clock for a 33-26 halftime lead in favor of the Pirates.

Kariel Hutt got going early for GRU and paced the team with 26 points and 16 points.

Armstrong hit two buckets to open the second half, before GRU's Kariel Hutt hit a back-to-back layup and jumper to make it a five-point game with 17:35 in the game. The Jags shot 44.1 percent from the floor in the second half to the Pirates' 57.7 percent. The Jags trailed by 20 with 11:05 remaining in the game for their largest deficit of the game.

GRU fell 79-70 to the Pirates and posted a 38.1 field-goal percentage to Armstrong's 49.1, while the Pirates had four players score in double figures. The Jags' Camille Gee scored 12 points and the team was 12-15 at the free-throw line (69.2 percent) in the loss
