RALEIGH, N.C. – The Augusta University men's golf team finished with their third top-10 finish of the young season on Tuesday at the NC State Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Augusta carded sixth out of 17 teams to finish 11-over par.
Looking to repeat their championship run from last year at NC State, Augusta improved by 15 strokes after round two Monday on the par-71, 7,358-yard course. The Jaguars were in third place and were 13 strokes off first-place East Carolina to start round three.
ECU (-15) edged out Kennesaw State (-12) for the victory and host NC State (-3) climbed to third. Maryland (+5) finished fourth and Campbell (+9) over took the Jags by two shots to take fifth.
Senior Emmanuel Kountakis led Augusta for the second-straight tournament after he placed in a tie for 18th overall. Kountakis combined for 10 birdies across 54 holes to lead the team and finished the event with a 75 (+4) in round three.
Senior Jake Marriott's 68 (-3) in round two highlighted his week, He finished four-over par in a tie for 31st and freshman Gustav Andersson matched his low round with a 71 (E) to place 58th.
Junior Ryan Johnson tied for 64th to finish off the starting five for Augusta. Senior Cooper Brown entered the tourney as an individual and he ended four-over par in a tie for 31st.
Timothy Conover of East Carolina ran away with the individual title 12-under par.
The Jaguars travel to the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., for a three day event on Oct. 16-18 at the Isleworth Country Club. The tournament is hosted by Central Florida and Texas Tech.
