Box Score EMERSON, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars met the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles on Tuesday afternoon and fell 13-2 in a non-conference game at LakePoint Sporting Complex in Emerson, Ga.
The Jaguars (13-7) are now 3-1 at neutral sites this season after the game at LakePoint and return to Peach Belt Conference play this weekend on the road.
USI (8-3) was ranked 33rd nationally in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll and they took a 1-0 lead in their first at bat on an RBI single that scored an unearned run after a Jaguar infield error.
Sophomore righty David Hagelston (0-2) made his seventh appearance in his second start for Augusta and went 2.2 innings. Hagelston gave up four hits for seven runs, but only one was earned.
Augusta went to senior David Bermudez and freshman Chase Slone out of the bullpen and the Screaming Eagles continued their offensive prowess. The Jags used five arms from the bullpen total with sophomores Zach Ledbetter and David Rivera also making late appearances.
USI scored six runs off four hits and two Augusta errors in the top of the third to take a 7-0 advantage. They carded seven more hits through the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by three homers.
The Jags used two USI errors in the sixth to get on the board, but the early deficit was too much to overcome. Colin Nowak (1-0) recorded six innings of work for Southern Indiana in the win and allowed four hits for two runs (zero earned) to get his first win of the season.
Augusta sophomore Gage Patton went 2-4 in the loss, while seniors Hunter Boose and Drew Taylor and sophomore Brent Alford each had a hit on the day. The Screaming Eagles totaled 14 hits and were led by Sam Griggs and Drake McNamara with three hits each.
The Jags travel for their first PBC series with a trip to Lander in Greenwood, S.C., March 11-13. The series begins with a Friday night first pitch at 6:00 p.m.
