Jaguars Fall to Mountain Lions

Young Harris, Ga. – The Augusta University Women's Basketball team fell to the Young Harris Mountain Lions 71-59 in a conference contest. The Jags drop to 6-7 on the season with a 3-2 record in Peach Belt match ups, while the Mountain Lions improve to 8-5 overall and are now 2-3 in conference games.

Augusta found itself outplayed severely in the first half, being outscored 15-6 in the first quarter of play, and 18-9 in the second. With the home team boasting a sizeable 33-15 lead at halftime, the Jags found an offensive spark in the second half.

Augusta managed to put up a total of 44 points after halftime in an effort to mount a comeback, despite Young Harris only scoring 38 points in the third and fourth quarters, the Mountain Lions were able to hold off the Jags attack.

For the Game, the Jaguars shot 20-of-54 (37.0%) from the field including a pair from beyond the three-point mark. Augusta also dropped in 17 free throws on 20 trips to the charity stripe.

Leading the offense for the Jags was Crystal Corley, who scored 19 points in the game, going five-for-14 from the field with one three pointer, and eight-of-nine from the charity stripe. Corley also led her squad with four steals on the day.

 

 Augusta returns home for their next game as they take on the Francis Marion Patriots on January 15th at 5:30 p.m.
