Box Score 2 Huntsville, Ala. – The Augusta University Baseball team lost the season opener to the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers 11-1 in a non-conference match up. The Jags are 0-1 to start the season while the Chargers open the year at 1-0.
After a scoreless first, the Chargers picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead over the Jags.
Trent Maddox opened the fourth inning with a double to right field. It looked as though the leadoff double would go to waste, as the Jags quickly found themselves with two outs, but Timothy Gray laced a single into center to drive home Maddox and get the Jaguars on the board 2-1.
The Chargers gave Augusta little hope for a comeback though, as their bats produced run after run, putting the game out of reach by the end of the sixth inning.
Aron Chick got the start for Augusta, throwing 4.0 innings while allowing four runs on six hits and striking out three, and picking up the loss. Will Cantrell came in to pitch a frame, giving up four runs in the outing on five hits, while also striking out one. Ethan Dodd also saw action for the Jags, pitching 2.2 innings while surrendering three runs on three hits and striking out a pair.
At the plate, Maddox went two-for-three with a double and a run scored, while Gray went a perfect two-for-two with an RBI and one walk.
The Jaguars are back at it for a double header with the Chargers tomorrow. Game 2 is slotted to start at noon, with the series finale expect to start at 4:00 p.m.
