Box Score ROYSTON, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team opened their season against Emmanuel College on Tuesday afternoon and fell 76-59 in non-conference action.
The Jags shot 22-for-54 (40.7%) from the field, while Emmanuel went 27-for-52 (51.9%) from the field. Augusta went 5-for-14 (35.7%) from three-point range and went 10-for-13 (76.9%) from the free-throw line. Emmanuel went 4-for-14 from three-point range (28.6%) and 18-for-23 (78.3%) from the free-throw line.
The Jaguar Trio of Kiera Howard, Asia Harrison, and Jaelyn Autman each turned in double-digit scoring performances in the opener.
Augusta had a higher 3-point percentage for the game yet the Lions outrebounded the Jags 34-24.
Both teams traded baskets for the entirety of the 1st quarter with neither team leading by a larger margin than 6. A jump shot by Jaelyn Autman halfway through the 2nd quarter tied the game at 21, but a late offensive surge sent Emmanuel into the locker room with an 8 point lead.
The Jaguars showed fight in the second half by outrebounding the Lions in the 3rd quarter and essentially matching their scoring in the 4th, yet the deficit remained constant throughout the second half. Emmanuel defeated Augusta by an eventual score of 78-59.
Augusta hosts the UNC Pembroke on Saturday, Dec 5th for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff in Christenberry Fieldhouse. Fans will not be permitted, but live stats and video will be available at Augustajags.com.
