Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University women's basketball team played their second road game and fell 67-45 in a non-conference matchup to the Lander Bearcats in Greenwood, S.C.
Augusta (1-3) was led by senior Zairya West's 11 points. West also added 6 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Jags sophomore Kennedi Manning scored 8 points with 5 rebounds. Jalea Gray and Asia Harrison added 7 and 8 points respectively while Gray paced the Jags with 7 rebounds.
Voted second in the PBC Preseason Poll, Lander (1-0) was led by Makalia Cange's 16 points.
Lander shot 40.9 percent from the floor to AU's 32.7 percent and outrebounded Augusta 42-35. AU scored first in the contest, but the Bearcats scored 11 unanswered to take an early lead that was never recovered.
The Jaguars outscored Lander 9-4 in the first six-and-a-half minutes of the second quarter, closing within 23-18 on West's jumper with 3:46 left in the half. Augusta went to the locker room down 31-20 at the break. Manning's basket pulled Augusta within 33-26 with 7:46 left in the third quarter, Hamilton made a long 3 from the right side, pushing Lander's lead to 41-28 with 4:46 to go in the third. Augusta would eventually drop the contest 67-45.
