Box Score FLORENCE, SC. – The Augusta University women's basketball team won 59-56 in a tight Peach Belt Conference game over the Francis Marion Patriots Wednesday evening in Florence.
Augusta (8-15, 5-10 PBC) completed the regular-season sweep of the Patriots (11-10, 7-8 PBC) with the win
Jags junior Zairya West led the team with 17 points. West went 4-for-6 from the three point line. Ranked 8th in the league for rebounds per game, AU freshman Kennedi Manning added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Cameryn Wilson also turned in a double digit performance with 11 points against Francis Marion. Sophomore Jaelyn Autman led the team in rebounds with 8 on the night.
The Jags recorded a 34.5% field-goal percentage (19-of-55) to Francis Marion's 44.2 percent (25-of-49.) Augusta was 4-of-10 from beyond the arc (40 percent) and 17-of-28 from the free throw line (60.7 percent).
Francis Marion was led by Kianna Adderton's 27 points and Scarlertt Gilmore's 11 points.
Early buckets by Manning and West helped the Jags build a 17-9 in the first quarter. Zairya West hit two three pointers within the first five minutes of the game.
The Patriots put up 16 points to AU's 8 in the second period leaving both teams tied at halftime.
A layup from Camryn Wilson put the Jaguars up by five at the end of the third period. The final quarter remained a tight battle. Francis Marion outscored Augusta 18-16 in the fourth quarter, but the Jags held on to claim a narrow three point victory.
Augusta returns home on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The men are set to play at 3:30 p.m.
