Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. – The Augusta University women's basketball team headed to the South Carolina coast on Wednesday night to take on Francis Marion and won 70-64 in a Peach Belt Conference meeting.
Augusta (6-8, 5-4 PBC) completed the regular-season sweep of the Patriots (1-10, 1,-9 PBC) after the Jags won 60-51 at home in Christenberry Fieldhouse Feb 3.
Jags junior Kiera Howard went 6-for-10 from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line for 14 points November Morton also scored 14 points to help lead the Jags to victory. Kennedi Manning posted 12 points while freshman Michaela Lane also carded double digits.
Augusta put up a 50.0 field-goal percentage (29-for-58) and held Francis Marion to 38.3 shooting (23-for-60). Francis Marion hit three shots from beyond the arc to AU's four and the Jags outrebounded the visiting team 42-29. Augusta outscored the Patriots in the paint 36-30.
The Patriots were led by Scarlett Gilmore with 26 and Lauryn Taylor with 22 points.
The Patriots led to start the game until AU tied it 18-all on a Morton free throw. The game stayed within a few points until a small run put AU up 34-25 at the half
The Jags stayed ahead the rest of the game and led 51-38 going into the fourth quarter. The advantage stayed to Augusta and they won an 70-64 road game
The Augusta University women's basketball team hosts its final home contest against UNC Pembroke on Saturday at 1:30 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
