AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team carded a 9 point victory over Francis Marion in a 60-51 Peach Belt Conference game in Christenberry Fieldhouse Wednesday night. The Jaguar players scored in double digits during the evening matchup.
Augusta (2-3, 1-0 PBC) played their first game in over a month Wednesday evening. The different Augusta players scored in the double digits in the win. Zairya West led the team with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Kiera Howard scored 14 points with 3 steals and Kennedi Manning added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Jaguars shot 47.1 percent from field-goal range and held FMU to 31.1 percent shooting. FMU canned six deep balls but AU outscored them 34-18 in points in the paint
FMU made 7-of-10 free throws (70) to AU's 11-of-19 (57.9).
The contest was tight through the entire first and second quarters, with AU extending its lead to 8 after Zairya West made a jump shot to with 25 seconds left in the half. The Jaguars took to the locker room at halftime with a 36-28 lead.
Francis Marion never led during the second half. Late made free throws by Kiera Howard helped secure a 60-51 victory.
FMU was led by Lauryn Taylor's 12 points.
The Jaguars return to Christenberry Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb 6th for a 1:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game with the Young Harris Lions
