Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team played at home in Christenberry Fieldhouse, defeating Young Harris 54-45 in Peach Belt Conference meeting.
Augusta (3-3, 2-0 PBC) took on the Mountain Lions (2-4, 2-4 PBC) for the first and only bout between the two teams for the season
Jags juniors November Morton and Kiera Howard both scored 11 points in the game. Morton went 4-for-13 and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Howard was 5-for-13 and 1-for-2 from the free throw line. Zairya West added 8 points, Kennedi Manning added 9 points, and Asia Harrison added 7 points, showing a balanced offensive attack for AU.
Augusta put up a 35.0 field-goal percentage (21-for-60) and held Young Harris to 31.5 shooting (15-for-48). Young Harris hit six threes to AU's three, but the Jags outrebounded the Mountain Lions 40-39 and outscored them 28-14 in the paint.
Augusta's bench scored 11 points to Young Harris' 7. The Mountain Lions were led by Carly Winters with 15 points
AU jumped out to an early 10-2 lead. The Jaguars never trailed during the contest, leading by as many as 17 points early in the third quarter. A made jump shot by Michaela Lane to open the second half put the Jaguars up 31-17.
A made lay-up by Kiera Howard extended the lead to 34-17. A 10-0 run by the Mountain Lions put the visiting team within 9 with 1:17 to go in the third, but a made layup by Zairya West again extended the lead. A made three-pointer by Lindsey Caudell brought Young Harris within 4 near the end of regulation, but the Jags carded a 54-45 win
