SPARTANBURG, S.C . –The Augusta University Men's Cross Country team came away as the top Division II team at the Eye Opener Invitational to start the 2023 season.

Augusta finished fourth overall as a team and recorded the top score of any Division II team in the field. Liberty, Furman, and Clemson took the top slots.
Avery Jaynes and
Patrick Motes led the way for Augusta, finishing within two seconds of each other and recording the best two Division II times in the field. Jaynes turned in a time of 25:21.5 while Motes finished just behind him at 25:23.7.
Newcomers
Brandon Martin (25:28.7) and Jordan Robertson (25:31.1) joined Thomas Rishar to round out the top five runners for the Jaguars.
Andrew Cole was the final Augusta runner to finish his 8,000m race in under 26 minutes at 25:57.9.
The Jaguars hope to follow up their dominant outing with another as they head to the Southern Showcase in Jacksonville, Alabama on Friday, Sept. 15.
