Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy from women's golf have been named the Georgia's Own Student-Athletes of the Month for September. The Georgia's Own Student-Athlete of the Month Award honors one male and one female Augusta University student-athlete from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
Enzo Garutti – Men's Tennis
Junior
Enzo Garutti made a strong showing at the 2024 ITA Regionals, held in Sumter, South Carolina, competing as an individual the in singles and doubles draws. The Brazilian native, seeded 9th, advanced through multiple rounds to reach the semifinals. After a bye in the first round, he secured a thrilling victory on Saturday, September 28, with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Hampus Hagglund from the University of Mount Olive. On Sunday, September 29, he continued his winning streak, defeating Samuel Winter 6-4, 6-2. Garutti advanced by walkover on Monday when his opponent, Baptiste Mercier, withdrew due to injury, and he followed up with a solid 6-2, 6-3 win against Mico Vincent Fenollar. Despite his impressive run, Garutti's journey came to an end in the semifinals.
Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy – Women's Golf
Sophomore
Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy led wire-to-wire to win the 50th annual Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman Golf Course. McCarthy, from Spain, birdied the final hole and fired a 70 to win by a shot over Averi Cline and Catie Craig, both of Western Kentucky. Gonzalez-McCarthy was -8 for the tournament after rounds of 68-70-70 to claim her first collegiate victory. Gonzalez-McCarthy had four birdies and two bogeys on the day, but none bigger than draining the winning putt on her final hole of the tournament.
At the Badger Invitational to open the season, McCarthy led the Jaguars with an impressive performance, shooting rounds of 74-71-71 to finish tied for 6th at +1. She tallied six birdies across the tournament, including crucial ones on the par-3 5th hole, securing her spot in the top 10.
