AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta University volleyball team (15-5, 3-3 PBC) avenged their earlier season loss to the USC Aiken Pacers (11-6, 3-3 PBC) with an impressive 3-1 victory at home Saturday evening. The Jaguars took the match with set scores of 19-25, 25-17, 25-19, and 25-14. Augusta hosts UNC Pembroke in non-conference play on Thursday, November at 6:00 pm.
After dropping the first set 19-25, the Jaguars adjusted their play and took the second set 25-17, with timely contributions from Madelyn Eden, who recorded 12 kills on a .476 hitting percentage and added 6 blocks. Jada Suguturaga led the defense with 9 blocks and added 5 kills. In the third set, Augusta improved their attack and took the set 25-19, hitting .333 as a team. They carried that efficiency into the fourth set, closing out the match 25-14 to secure the win.
Marah Zenner facilitated the offense , posting 24 assists and 15 digs. Counterpart Janvier Buggs supported with 19 assists and 5 digs. Layne Witherspoon added 11 kills on a .381 hitting percentage and 3 blocks, adding depth to the team's performance.
Rylie Harris led the defensive effort with 22 digs, while Marin Freeland contributed 9 kills and 7 blocks.
