INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Augusta University women's basketball appears in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Regional ranking, which was released Wednesday evening. There will be two more published regional rankings before the national tournament field is released in early March.
Augusta holds a 17-7 overall record against Division II competition.
Within the region, the Jaguars are also 17-7. The Jaguars are currently second in the Peach Belt Conference and are looking to return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2016.
There are four teams, including Augusta, ranked from the Peach Belt Conference. Lander (15-8), Columbus State (14-8), Georgia Southwestern (17-3), and Lander (15-8) are in the alphabetical listing.
Other teams listed are: Anderson (18-6), Carson-Newman (18-7), Catawba (18-4), Francis Marion (16-6), Lenoir-Rhyne (18-7), and Wingate (17-8).
Augusta's Division II strength of schedule is .527 and its rating percentage index (RPI) is .571.
The national tournament selection criteria are based on in-region winning percentage, D2 winning percentage, D2 strength of schedule, D2 head-to-head competition, and results vs. common D2 opposition.
The NCAA regional rankings are the official rankings used by the committee to select the national tournament field. The field will be comprised of 64 teams and the Southeast Region will have eight teams. The three conference tournament champions (PBC, SAC, and Conference Carolinas) receive an automatic berth to the regional.
After defeating Lander Wednesday evening, Augusta will travel to North Georgia on Feb 24.
