Women's basketball team volunteers during Tunnels to Tower event

Once again, the Augusta University women's basketball team volunteered for the 8th annual Tunnel to Tower 5K and walk event held on the Summerville Campus of AU.

The Jaguar players not only served as course marshals at key locations of the event, but also helped to hang pictures of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. Those photos were on display during the ceremony held prior to the 5K.

Tunnel to Tower run and walk is to honor the life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who lost his life on Sept. 11, 2001 after running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers with his firefighting gear on.

The annual event is not only to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11, but to raise money for the Tunnel to Tower Foundation that assists Gold Star families to build mortgage free homes. It is also a way for the Augusta community to honor first responders who continue to put their lives on the line every day.
