Greenville, SC-Augusta University sophomore
Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy put her name atop the leaderboard in the opening round of the 50th Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman University. Gonzalez-McCarthy fired a first round 68 and is -4, tied with Kara Carter of Xavier for the top spot. Her round featured seven birdies on the day to lead all Jaguars.
As a team, Augusta finished at +14 and is in 10th place. The second round will be Saturday and the final round Sunday at the Furman University Golf Club. Xavier is atop the team leaderboard at -2 with the host Paladins second at Even and Old Dominion and the University of North Carolina Wilmington tied at +3.
Marine Legentil was the second lowest Jaguar with a 76 today. Legentil had no birdies and four bogeys on the scorecard.
Zoe Pinillos and
Sara Adams posted rounds of 77 and 81 as their scores counted towards the team total. Each registered a single birdie during their opening round.
Round two will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
Augusta University is defending co-champions of the event.
