Priscilla Landi is a junior on Augusta University's tennis team, and she came all the way from Misiones, Argentina to play. At 16 years old Landi moved to the capital of her country 10 hours away from her home and family to further her tennis career.
With an older sister who came to the U.S. to play tennis already, Landi knew she'd follow in her footsteps. Landi has been playing since she was three years old and worked hard to get where she is now.
Because of her competitive nature Landi didn't always enjoy the sport.
"I didn't really like it when I was, I don't know, five years old maybe. I hated it because I couldn't stop losing," said Landi.
But that has changed, and she now embraces the sport she grew up with.
Landi will be graduating in less than two years with a degree in cyber security. A major that she finds can be quite challenging, but already has plans to work towards her master's degree.
Once she graduates, she'll be hanging up her tennis racket and saying goodbye to the chapter of her life that lasted over 15 years. But she's not done yet and Landi is ready for her third season with the team to start as she's had some great memories from previous seasons.
"My first semester I had a clinch. I won the one match that we needed to win a series. That was just a good one," she said.
When Landi came to the U.S. she didn't speak English at all. She was taught in school but being able to speak the language was still a challenge.
"I'm so shy, so it was really embarrassing every time I had to speak," said Landi.
With time and being constantly surrounded by those that fluently speak the language, Landi has grown more confident when speaking English. But she still considers herself shy when you first get to know her.
Landi loves the college experience and everything it has to offer but she's not sure Augusta will be the city she settles into. She's been to New York, Florida, and Tennessee and her favorite place she's been to is Miami.
"I really liked the vibes there. It would be a place I would consider living at," said Landi.
Like the majority of international students Landi really misses the food back home. Her favorite meal being asado and she always makes sure she gets it when she goes back.
One of Landi's favorite things to do is play golf. She likes to play anytime she can. Golf is a fun way for her to relax.
Landi's other hobbies include listening to music, cooking, and taking naps. Her dream destination would be the Maldives, and she hopes one day she'll be able to go. She loves all things tropical and thinks the Maldives would be the perfect place for her.
While living alone wasn't new to her, being alone in another country was a challenge she had to overcome. She talks with friends and family on the phone and travels back when she has the time.
Despite some of the challenges she's faced Landi is proud and happy with the decision she made to come to Augusta University. She's made friends and memories here and ready to see what else will happen.
