Orangeburg, S.C. - The Augusta University bats were out in force on Saturday as the Jaguars swept a doubleheader of Claflin winning game one 15-4 and then taking game two 17-3. With the wins, the Jaguars are now 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference play and 7-4 overall. The Panthers are 0-3 in conference play and 3-6 overall.
GAME ONE
In the opener, the Jags scored all their runs after the third inning.
Davis Newman and
Nolan Turner both homered as each had four RBI and two hits. Turner's blast was a grand slam as he also scored three runs..Newman's blast started the Augusta scoring and was a three-run shot.
Landon Leonard kept up his hot hitting with a pair of hits and three runs driven in.
Ryan Patrick and
Nathan Martin also drove a home a run in the winning effort.Â
Caleb Jatko went the distance on the mound allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six.Â
GAME TWO
Turner would also deliver in a big way in game two as he had four hits, three RBI and four runs scored.
Wyatt Talik had three hits and three RBI and
Davis Newman drove in three runs as well.
AU started the scoring in the second inning as
Jake Vachon started the scoring after the Panther left fielder misplayed a ball allowing Vachon and
Roland Chance to come around and touch home.Â
The Jags would blow it open in the third by scoring five runs. Turner drove in a pair of runs followed by Leonard scoring a run on an infield out. Chance and
Kent Moon would add RBI's as well.
A sixth-run eighth inning would finish off the series sweep for Augusta.Â
On the mound,
Tyler Zawackie picked up the win with six solid innings. Zawackie allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out eight Panther batters.Â
The Jaguars return to Jaguar Field Tuesday afternoon when they host Shorter. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
