Griffin Stewart pitched eight innings of two-run ball and the Augusta offense collected 16 hits in the Jaguar 12-4 win over MIddle Georgia Friday evening. With the win, AU improves to 13-10 overall and 9-4 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Knights fall to 8-16 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
Stewart collected his third win of the year as he allowed six hits, one earned run with five strikeouts and no walks.Â
At the plate, the Jags had four players collecting at least two hits with
Nolan Turner having three hits for the game.
Landon Leonard had a pair of hits, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
Kent Moon,
Aidan Cannaday and
Nathan Martin also collected two hits apiece.
The Jaguars wasted little time in getting on the board with Leonard connecting on a solo homer in the second. Cannaday and
Davis Newman would also pick up RBIs in the inning.
After a single run in the third, Augusta would plate three more runs in the fourth. Martin, Turner and Leonard would each drive in a run as the Jags extended their lead to 7-0.
Roland Chance's two run single would highlight a four-run eighth inning putting the game on ice.
Augusta and Middle Georgia will play game two of the three game series Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.Â
