Augusta's Rally Comes Up Short in the Battle For the Paddle Against USCA

North Augusta, S.C. - In the annual Battle for the Paddle between Augusta and USCA, it was the Pacers scoring seven runs early and then holding off the Jaguars for the 7-5 victory at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C. Augusta is now 15-16 overall and USCA improves to 22-9. 

Nathan Martin led the Augusta offensive with a pair of hits and a homer. He was the only Jag hitter with more than one hit on the night as AU was held to six hits on th night. 

The Pacers jumped out early on the Jaguars taking a 7-0 lead after four innings. Augusta did make things interesting by plating four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Aidan Cannaday singled in Martin for the first run. AU would then take advantage of a big error by USCA. Harris Bachelder would reach on a fielders choice driving in Landon Leonard. On the play, a throwing error would allow Nolan Turner to score the third run of the inning. Jake Vachon would then lift a sacrifice fly plating the fourth run of the frame.

It would be 7-4 USCA into the ninth when Maritn would go deep for the last Augusta run.

Augusta will be back at Jaguar Field for a weekend series against North Georgia. Game one of the series is Friday at 6:00 p.m.
