Augusta Drops Tough 5-4 Game to No. 17 North Georgia

Augusta, Ga. - Despite Augusta leading for seven innings, No. 17 North Georgia rallied for two runs in the eighth and knock off the Jaguars 5-4 at Jaguar Field Friday night. AU falls to 15-17 overall and 11-8 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Nighthawks are now 26-8 overall and 17-2 in the conference.

Griffin Stewart shined for Augusta on the mound going seven strong innings, giving up just three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks. 

The Jags would get on the board in the opening inning. With one out, Roland Chance walked and Landon Leonard doubled him to third. The red-hot Aidan Cannaday would come through with a two-run single giving AU the early lead.

It would be 2-2 headed to the third when the Jags would retake the lead. Harris Bachelder singled to start the inning and would score on a RBI single from Jake Vachon. Vachon would then move to second on a wild pitch. He would score on a Ryan Patrick single to make it 4-2.

North Georgia scored a run in the fourth and then in the eighth, tallied two runs to take the lead for good.

Augusta finished the game with six hits.

The two teams will play game two of the series Saturday with first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
