Augusta, Ga. - North Georgia scored all their runs in the middle innings and collected a 13-2 win over Augusta to sweep the series against the Jaguars. Augusta is now 11-10 in Peach Belt Conference play and 15-19 overall. The Nighthawks improve to 19-2 in conference action and 28-8 overall.
Augusta scored in the bottom of the first when
Nolan Turner singled to start off the inning. He would come around and score on a
Harris Bachelder triple giving AU the early 1-0 lead.
In the third,
Landon Leonard hit a solo home run, his fifth of the year to make it 2-0 Augusta.
Patrick Matsunaga started and went four shutout innings before getting in trouble in the fifth. That's when North Georgia exploded for eight runs, including a grand slam home run by Cam Hodge. Hodge would also crack a three-run homer in the next inning.
AU had just five hits with
Mattheson Go and
Aidan Cannaday each picking up doubles in the ballgame.
Augusta will next be in action Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Southern Wesleyan.
