Augusta, Ga. - Freshman Harris Bachelder hit the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth over the right field wall giving Augusta a thrilling 4-3 win over Lander Friday night at Jaguar Field. It was Bachelder's second homer of his career. With the win, the Jaguars improve to 8-2 in Peach Belt Conference play and 12-8 overall, the Bearcats are now 6-4 in conference play and 12-8 overall. 

Patrick Matsunaga picked up the win in relief with two scoreless innings. 

Griffin Stewart pitched 7.1 strong innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with four strikeouts.

The Jaguars would score three runs in the third inning to take the early lead. Ryan Patrick reached on a fielder's choice and would score when Nathan Martin laced a double, and a throwing error would allow Patrick to touch home with the first run of the game. Then, Nolan Turner unloaded with a two-run home run to give AU the lead.

The Bearcats would respond in the fifth with three runs of their own to tie the game.

It would be a pitchers duel from there until the heroics of Bachelder. 

Augusta and Lander will play game two of the series on Saturday with first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
