AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Benedict on Tuesday as the Jaguars continued their spring schedule.
Augusta claimed the doubles point despite an abbreviated round of matches. Julieta Palma and Priscilla Landi were trailing 6-3 at No. 1 doubles against Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio when their opponents retired, giving the Jaguars the point by default. The teams of Luciana Bejarano and Andrea Gonzalez as well as Maria Gento and Juliana Martinez were awarded walkovers.
The Jaguars secured the team victory in singles play with several strong performances. Maria Gento earned a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Julieta Palma followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Priscilla Landi added a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Camila Taborga was leading when her opponent retired, giving her the victory, and both Julieta Palma and Giovanna Patrocinio were awarded walkover wins in their respective matches.
Augusta returns to action on March 10 against Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Hilton Head, S.C.
