Augusta, Ga. - Belmont Abbey scored in every inning but the ninth and knocked off Augusta 16-8 Wednesday night at Jaguar Field. The Jags are now 16-20 overall while the Crusaders, winners of 12 straight games, improve to 28-8 on the season.
Landon Leonard and
Jake Vachon each had two hits for Augusta and
Wyatt Talik hit a ninth inning two-run homer to lead the AU offense.
After giving up three runs in the first two innings, Augusta would tie the game in the bottom of the second. Vachon tripled to start the inning and
Kent Moon followed with a walk. Then, with one out,
Nathan Martin tripled to center driving in both Vachon and Moon.Â
AU would not score again until the sixth when Vachon would score on the back end of a double steal with Moon stealing second.
The Jags would cap off their scoring in the ninth by plating four runs. A run would score on a wild pitch with another coming home on a double play ball. Then, Talik would deliver his home to left field for the final runs of the game.
Augusta will next be in action Tuesday night when they travel to Franklin Springs, Ga. when they will take on Emmanuel.Â
