Aiken, S.C. - Augusta would score four runs in the eight inning and then have the go ahead run on base in the ninth, but come up short in falling to USCA 11-9 on Thursday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The Jaguars are now 11-11 in Peach Belt Conference play and 16-22 overall. The Pacers improve to 15-7 in the conference and 28-12 overall.
After trailing 11-4 going to the top of the eighth, the Jaguars would get off the deck and respond with a four spot of their own.
Mattheson Go would start the scoring in the frame with a RBI single plating
Jake Vachon.
Jakob Cowart, who had three hits and three runs scored, would then come up with an infield single plating the second run of the stanza. Go would then score the third run on a wild pitch while
Nolan Turner singled in the final run to make it 11-8.
In the ninth, the Jags would load the bases with one out. With two outs, Cowart would reach on an error that scored
Harris Bachelder. But the rally would end there.
Besides Cowart's big game, Bachelder had three hits with Turner,
Aidan Cannaday and
Jake Vachon all coming up with two hits each. For the game, AU had 15 hits with the nine runs scored. Cannaday, who's been red hot lately, also drove in a pair of runs.
The Pacers scored in every inning but the eighth and kept the pressure on all night long.
Game two of the series will be Friday night at 6 p.m.
