Jaguars begin 2015 season in Greenville, S.C., at Furman University
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Jaguar men's cross country team hit the course for the first time in the 2015 season Saturday morning at the Furman Cross Country Classic in Greenville, S.C., and GRU Augusta had six runners finish in the top 50 to card fifth overall as a team out of 19 squads.
The Jags race at the North Georgia Invitational next Friday, Sept. 19 for a women's 6K at 8:15 a.m. and a men's 8k at 9:00 a.m. in Dahlonega, Ga. The spectator-friendly, 100% all-grass course has hosted two NCAA Division I Cross Country championships. The course will be the site of the 2015 Southern Conference Championships on Oct. 31.
The Jaguar men bested 14 other schools as GRU's Dylan Forester led the way in 26:07.49 to take 15th overall. Nick Del Guercio also placed in the top 20 with a 16th place finish in 26:08.44.
Caleb Watson (26:56.94) and Boyd Guttery (27:14.44) finished close within one another with Watson taking 32nd and Guttery 37th. Josh Thompson took 47th in 27:28.38, Noah Hulett placed 50th in 27:32.18, Daniel Broadhead 60th in 27:51.59, and Tanner Hicks placed 101st in 29:19.96.
Lee won the team event and Georgia College took second, Emory third, Mars Hill fourth, GRU fifth, Shorter sixth, Emmanuel seventh, Lincoln Memorial eighth, Anderson ninth, and Montevallo 10th.
