AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State rallied for a dramatic 3-2 victory over Peach Belt
Conference rival USC Aiken Friday night in Christenberry
Fieldhouse. The win was the first for the Jaguars over USC Aiken
since Oct. 29, 2003.
With the victory, ASU improved to 14-19 overall and 3-6 in
conference play. The Pacers dropped to 15-13 overall and 3-6 in the
league.
ASU rallied from a 2-1 deficit, squaring the match with a 25-22
victory in the fourth set. The Jags then pulled ahead early in the
fifth set and junior all-conference performer Jessica Howard ended
the match with the final point.
Senior Amy Hunt, who was honored before the match as the
squad's lone senior, notched a double-double with 12 kills
and 14 digs. Howard tallied a team-high 18 kills, while freshman
Jessica Hanson booked 16 against just two errors. Freshman setter
Ashley Zappitell racked up a season-high 55 assists.
USCA senior Stefanie Durham posted a match-high 28 kills against
only two errors and added 18 digs for a double-double of her own.
Jessica Loper managed 10 kills while Lauren Cedeno and Whitney
Tabbert combined on 60 assists for the Pacers.
ASU closes out the regular season on Saturday afternoon when the
Jags host Lander in a 3:00 p.m. PBC match in Christenberry
Fieldhouse.
