AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State shot 50.8 percent
from the field and posted its most lopsided win of the season
Wednesday night with an 81-46 Peach Belt Conference victory over
UNC Pembroke in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With the win, No. 10 ASU improved to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the PBC
and matched the best 11-game record by a Jaguar squad since the
1977-78 season. The loss dropped UNCP to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in the
conference.
The victory was also the 12th straight for ASU over the Braves. The
Jags lead the all-time series 28-8.
UNCP's 46 points were the fewest allowed by ASU since
surrendering just 45 to Georgia College & State on Jan. 24,
2007, a span of 59 games.
Senior center Garret Siler led the way for ASU, registering his
team-best third double-double of the season with 22 points and 10
rebounds. He shot 10-of-11 from the field and added a season-high
six blocks.
Junior point guard Daniel Dixon canned six-of-eight 3-point
attempts for 18 points, while senior center Jason Killeen posted
career highs in scoring (14 points) and rebounding (six rebounds).
All 12 Jags played double-digit minutes in the contest.
Brandon Thomas was the lone Brave to reach double figures,
finishing with 12 points.
UNCP led for the first four-and-half minutes before a Siler layup
tied the game at 8-all. Dixon's first 3-pointer of the night
put the Jags ahead 11-8 and they took their largest lead of the
first half -- 45-28 -- on a Dixon trey with 33 seconds left.
Sophomore guard Caleb Brown's jumper at the 12:14 mark capped
a 16-5 run to start the second half and the Jags lead never dipped
below 26 points.
ASU limited UNCP to just 32.7 percent shooting from the field, a
season-low by a Jaguar opponent, and outrebounded the Braves
47-28
The Jags set team season highs in rebounds (47), bench points (44),
assists (21) and blocks (nine).
ASU wraps up its three-game homestand on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 7:30
p.m., when Armstrong Atlantic State pays a visit to Christenberry
Fieldhouse.
