ASU Splits On The Road

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – – Augusta State split a doubleheader with Georgia College on Saturday afternoon in day one of the three-game Peach Belt Conference series in Milledgeville, Ga.

With the loss, Augusta State is now to 24-30 on the season and 10-16 in the league, while Georgia College moved to 37-15 overall and 16-10 in the conference.

In game one, the Bobcats jumped out early plating two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Jaguars. ASU responded in the top of the third with two runs to make the score 2-all.

In the fourth, the Jags added another run with a single run homer from senior Kevin Owens. Junior Tony Baker then hit a two-run homer to give ASU a 5-2 lead. The Jags would eventually go on to a 11-5 victory over the Bobcats.

Augusta State responded with a pair of runs in the third frame as Leann Barber reached on an error and a throwing error brought Kayla Adams and Sara Demuth racing to the plate to cut the North Georgia lead in half at 4-2.

Freshman Wilson Taylor (4-4) earned the win in game one, lasting 8.1 innings and giving up five runs on 10 hits while striking out two. Relieving Taylor in the ninth was sophomore Stephen Ramsey, who didn't allow a hit and booked a strikeout.

In game two, the Jaguars jumped our early plating a run in the top of the first with a single from sophomore Tristan Toorie, scoring Wilkerson.

The Bobcats answered back with four runs in the bottom of the first and would command the lead the rest of the game. Georgia College would go to defeat ASU 17-6.

Senior Ben Dukes (5-4) suffered the loss giving up four runs on three hits.

Senior Tim Rawlings paced the Jags offensively with five hits on the day and three RBI. Junior Shannon Wilkerson had four hits and five RBI. Sophomore Alex Walker had four hits on the afternoon, while seniors Kevin Owens and Jorge Virguez each had three safeties.

ASU is back in action tomorrow for the rubber game of the three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Georgia College. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
